Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of education is that all students are remarkable. Students must have an educational environment that allows them to grow mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. As a teacher, I desire to provide an environment that will enable students to maximize their potential. By creating a safe environment for students to feel free to express themselves, accept themselves for who they are, and embrace the differences of others. To prioritize building strong positive relationships to create positive connections and community in the classroom and achieve student success. To support my students in the good times and in the bad times.

I want to create an environment that is inclusive, where students feel safe and welcome in the classroom. I want my classroom to be a community, a community where they feel comfortable learning. A community where they feel comfortable speaking their minds. I believe as an educator it is crucial in helping students find their identity and build their character. I want them to be able to take the skills that they learn inside the classroom and apply them outside the classroom in their own lives.

I believe that building strong positive relationships goes beyond the classroom. I believe that parent communication is just as important to create those meaningful relationships with both the students and their parents. I will build my classroom foundation on having communication with the teacher, students, and their parents. It is important to keep the family involved in their child’s education as much as humanly possible. Obtaining a strong communication foundation is important for teachers, parents, and the student to establish success for the student inside the classroom. I will create a resource that allows daily communication if applicable between the teacher and the parent is the first step in creating a healthy positive relationship. I would like this resource to be suitable for both the teacher and the family. This resource can be an email or a written communication in the student’s planner/workbook.

  1. Good evening Kortney,
For me, the most meaningful thing that stood out to me from your post is you mentioning positive relationships. I completely agree with positive relationships because it is a trait in which students can learn and apply inside the classroom and outside the classroom. Far too many times educators get too focused on what they are trying to teach that they don't take the time to build those important and impactful relationships with their students.
    Thank you for sharing,

  2. Hi Kortney!
Although it is imperative to build strong relationships, it is equally as essential to maintaining those relationships. I've known teachers to create an excellent relationship with a student, but the relationship disappears when the behaviors come out. It is quite sad.
