  1. Hi Kortney!

I love this book and all of the cute lessons that come with it! This is one of those amazing lessons! It's so well-put together, it's organized, it's easy to ready, and it can so easily stem off of this into other lessons.

I saw one teacher who did something similar to this, early in the school year, and then she revisited it, specifically the students pictures of their houses, when they talked about making fire escape plans for their houses later in the school year. Which, might have been a bit of a stretch, but it was also just a necessary conversation that families need to have, and might not have been having. It was also easy for her to do because the booklet had the kid's street number and house number, and then the kids had to draw a bird's eye view of their house's layout, which she modeled and guided the student's through, the students then took the layout home, and talked to their family about what route they would take to get out of the house in the event of a fire and mapped that route onto their layout.

So these assignments can really go further into geography, or they can be the start of necessary conversations that not all families are having! Great post and great lesson! I love it!

  2. Kortney,
I really enjoy this lesson! It ensures that students have important knowledge of their location in the world along with key personal information. I may have missed this detail in your lesson but, I wanted to mention how a student may not know their address and recommend that you make a note that students should have a conversation at home about what their address is to ensure they are prepared.
    Thanks for sharing!
